New Nexus same sim card some contacts missing?

So I recently got a new Nexus through an insurance claim. It has been awesome thus far and I am very pleased to say the least with Asurion. However, even though I am using the same sim card as before, some of my most recently addded contacts (within the last few months) are missing? How can this be and is there a way to get them back that I have over looked?

For the record they arent part of my google contacts for some reason either even though I always save my new contacts as google contacts. I must be missing a step when I create new contacts

do you auto sync your google account? if not, do you at least perform manual sync after adding contacts? if you didn't do those, chances are the contacts have been saved only to your old phone but not in the google server.

Yeah, I think thats the issue. So when I make a new contact and I choose google contact it doesn't save it to my sim card? But somewhere else on the phone?

yep. it saves it in the phone memory and you need to sync with your google account to store it in the servers so it's safe. if you change phones in the future, you simply need to sync and all contacts in your google account gets downloaded to your new phone.
