    I don't think you screwed up that kernel (unless you downloaded wrong one). I suspect older recovery is the problem as so many are having issues with older recoveries.

    1. Boot into bootloader mode.
    2. Using command prompt, fastboot flash recovery "name of file"

    Download kernel file and place on sd card. Boot...

    Download kernel file and place on sd card.
    Boot into CWM recovery.
    No wipes required as per Franco.
    Install zip.
    Reboot into system.
    Reboot phone after all has settled in.

    I can't seem to locate any gsm odin files ever since some of the file hosting sites went down. Your best bet might be to try one of the tool kits or if you can get into bootloader mode adb commands.
