    Bootlooping ugh

I'm rooted and running AOKP Jelly Bean Build 5. My phone battery died earlier today, and because of Hurricane Sandy my only means of charging it back up was my car charger. Well I plugged it in and at first it seemed like it was charging, but my car charger is iffy at times so I have to make sure it stays still. No matter how still I thought I was being, the phone would boot to the boot animation but then turn off and go back to a black background with a battery charging on it. I got to where there was power and a wall outlet and the phone did the same thing. Now that I'm back home with power, I plugged in my phone and it won't go past the boot animation. I've pulled the battery many times to no avail. I tried to boot into recovery and the phone shows a normal android figure, not the one that shows the chest of the android open and it says "downloading. do not turn off target" and i can't scroll through to any other options but start, which takes me back to the bootloop. I hope there is a was I can get my phone back up and running without unrooting. I have no recent backups and don't want to lose my sd card contents. Help....

When it says downloading you are actually in the download mode. Boot into bootloader first. From off state push and hold Vol up & down + power. From there use the volume buttons to navigate to recovery to reflash a rom or a backup. You may have very long boot times initially (up to ten minutes) so let it do it's thing.

Ok that seems a bit longer than 10 minutes. Do you have a backup made that you can flash?

I have one from about a month ago I could use. I just would have to dig around and see how i could restore certain things that i had saved after that. Or is there a way I can backup as much of my phone contents as of right now while my phone is doing whatever its doing then restart fresh?
