About LinkBacksI used to be able to connect my galaxy S to Kies most times without any problems.
With the Nexus - no deal
PC recognises it but Kies wont.
Select debugging - Nexus doesn't have the provision of connecting directly to Kies in the USB options.
All you get is the MTP or PTP options.
Its probably something simple - but I cant work it out.

Kies will not work on the Galaxy Nexus because it is a Google device. Kies is only for non-Google Samsung phones.

What app is the best solution to connect my Verizon Samsung Galaxy Nexus to my computer for backups since Kies will not work?

What kind of backups do you want? You can just copy paste the files from your phone to pc or try out airdroid
