Phone Charger Connection Issues.....

First off, hello!

Okay so I just recently purchase my Nexus HSPA+ from Google, and I was totally stoked when I first got it. Now I'm having issues.
A long time ago I bought a G1 off of ebay that came preloaded with Cyanogenmod. I really loved the ROM and the Android experience, so I used that phone and didn't mess with it till it finally bit the bullet. I moved on to other phones, but always in the back of my mind I wanted my Android back. So a few years later, (and few jobs later) I was finally able to afford to get a Nexus. And one of the first things I wanted to do to it was to install Cyanogenmod on it. Now to clarify, I'm not that great with computers and phones and terminal commands and whatnot, but eventually through some awesome guides and an awesome one-click program, I was able to root and unlock my bootloader, and was finally able to flash Cyanogenmod 9 using ROM Manager. Just my luck that something had to go wrong with the hardware. (I'm assuming its the hardware anyways...)

About a week and a half into ownership, I noticed my phone wasn't charging when it was plugged into the wall. A few cord swaps and a quick google searched showed me that I just had to reboot my phone. And voila! it was charging again. A few days later, it happened again. Plugged into the wall not charging, so I thought a quick reboot would fix it. Negative. Tried probably ten more reboots. Nothing. Noticed that it will charge when powered down, but the phones my main alarm clock so I'm not really happy with that. I tried all the workarounds located here. And in a nutshell I'm having the same problems as this guy here. I can't get my computer to recognize the phone BUT at least when its plugged into the computer it'll charge when its on. Tried bending the connector in the female end of the phone, nothing. Tried cleaning with a toothpick, and a toothbrush. Nothing. So, I'm pretty fed up and I want to send it in to Samsung. However, I pretty sure they won't accept it because I rooted it and installed cyanogenmod.

So can anyone offer any advice on what to do? I would like to take my phone all the way back to stock, but if I can't connect it to the computer is this even possible? And I'm pretty hesitant about installing a new usb board, because I'm just not that technically skilled.

There is still options for you to get back to stock. Does your computer not recognize the phone at all when plugged in? Does it do anything when plugged in? Are you using the cord that came with the phone when plugging it in? That can make a difference sometimes.

I can't get it to recognize at all. It'll charge While its powered on when its connected to the computer though. However i didn't know the terminal commands to see if it was recognizing it that it was connecting. I checked/unchecked USB debugging multiple times to see if that helped but it didn't. And android file transfer definitely would not recognize it. And yes i was using the cord that came with the phone. As well as a different one.

Under settings> storage>(settings button)>USB computer connection> is "MTP" checked? Is anything checked?

Yes the box is checked , it actually won't even let me uncheck it. Nothing else in that menu is checked either.
