Try going to settings>apps>settings (three dots on top right)>reset app preferences. This might or might not restore them. If it does not have you tried rebooting the phone? The last resort will be to do a factory data reset in which you will lose everything so make sure you back up EVERYTHING!!!

Have you backed up your files and pictures? I see too many desperate cries for help recovering deleted priceless pictures with no solution.

If he deleted the apk from /system/app, won't it stay that way through a hard reset? I delete stock apk's that I don't care about and hard reset (on purpose) afterwards all the time. And neither the apps nor apk's reappear.

Maybe search for a system dump?

*Edited - forgot he was on JB. I can see about pulling a Google search tomorrow and see if I can't find a link or something to help with a sys dump...

Re: How can I restore a deleted stock app ?

Brad, did phantom get you going? He's got the apk. I found it also and saw that the JB version is the same as 4.0.4. So if you need the odexed version I got that if you needed. But I am suspecting that JB being a leak, it might be deodexed. Also, I found a link for you for the system dump so you have all the system apk's.

From the link, you can download the zip file for the ROM if you don't have yours any more. And then from Root Explorer or equivalent. Then go into the zip and extract the /system/app folder. And then you have the system apps.

(I hope I wasn't stepping on your toes, phantom)

Ouch toes hurt. Hahaha. Just kidding. No worries CC. That's why we're all here for so we can assist each other. Thanks for the link too. Anyway, I'll just post mine which came from a stock odexed jb so at least there are choices. https://www.box.com/shared/c0f961f744dcb37ed4e6

Like phantom said, that's what we all are here for. I was just making sure I wasn't butting in if he had something going for you.

I'm sure it would be helpful to know that you should set the permissions for the system apps to rw--r-r-

(I'm sure it's the same for GSM and CDMA models)

I did the simple "reset app prefs" that Paul advised and it did the trick. Thanx again all of you, O GNMasters of the rescue Squad. May your souls swim in ever-wisdom.
