Cracked/Non-functioning screen need to get pics off!

My screen cracked and is now black. I can tell that it is booting because it gives the tell-tale vibrate. I got the phone right around when my daughter was born and it has tons of pics of her entire life thus far (7 months old). I really need to get these pics off. When I connect it the computer shows it connected as a digital camera, obviously I cannot change this since I can't access the screen. It shows it empty as a digital camera. The phone is not rooted or modded in any way. I downloaded the toolkit and tried to boot in ABD mode, but the toolkit won't recognize my phone. I called Samsung and they were no help, same with Verizon. Please help me with this! What can I do?!

Dude, that really sucks! Have you downloaded the latest drivers from Samsung? It sounds like either you have an old iteration, or it's not seeing it. I would start by getting the drivers, then plug the phone in. By rights, your computer should then see it as your GNex, and you should be able to get in.

I do recall at some point being prompted to choose whether the phone is viewed as a camera or as a storage device. Not sure if that's something you'll be able to change blind or not.

It will take some doing but it might be possible for you to get it switched. Here are the USB options that pop up when you plug in the phone..



Then you'd need to tap the bottom option to get here..

You also might do a search for Samsung PTP drivers or software that will allow your PC to communicate with the phone while it's still in PTP mode. I'd say that's why your pictures aren't showing up with the settings as they are.
