    fail root 4.0.4 & toolkit v1.3

I failed to root using Wug's toolkit. I have the google GSM model. I used toolkit ver 1.3 downloaded 'bout a month ago. ICS version is 4.0.4. Does v1.3 work on 4.0.4? Everything seemed to go well just like in video, but no root at end.

I didn't look for old drivers, but no Samsung products were ever loaded on the laptop I used.
The video seemed to show the need to reset USB debugging several times, but mine never unchecked.
The unlock stage was supposed to do a reset but data never got wiped so I think that's where it skipped a beat.

So I'm thinking 4.0.4 might need a newer toolkit. Or I messed up skipping the search for 18d1 & 04e8.

Update: I see that in fastboot mode the bottom line (red) says lock state-unlocked, but nothing seems to have ever been wiped in the process-shortcuts were in place and the two pics I took were still there

Second Update: Problem solved, the SU.zip file in the toolkit was no good for 4.0.4. I got a new one from here:
    https://www.box.com/s/jvcf196j7x8f8vrc9cyt

I just replaced the SU in the toolkit with the new one and let the toolkit run the script & voila.
The Google version came unlocked so that's why my data never wiped. Whew! I had an easier time following command promt scripts on my D1 and my (beloved) X.

Now to pick my first GN ROM. I only know them by their cute names. Anybody know one that has speed dial or good voice dial?

you need an updated su.zip. Try searching google for imm76i su.zip. I rooted mine after googling for 3 days. Then I flash AOKP build 37.

Thank you for the suggestion. The data never got wiped so I wonder if that's where it went wrong. I did check for the superuser app in the tray and one was there. Not sure if it even unlocked.

Do you know if the device was ever detected by the laptop? If not, that may be the whole issue there. Can you browse the SD section of the phone from the computer when you plug it in?
Try installing the Samsung drivers first, then re-running and see what happens. To confirm if it took or not, you can run any app that requires root. SuperUser should run if you have root access.

Also, AOKP Build 38 was just released.AOKP is very customizable, and (at least on my phone) has good battery life.

Its almost perfect except for the pink unicorn. I hope they add the fast charge without reboot like in Apex.

I't took me 4 months before I flashed a custom rom. I always used a rooted stock rom since 4.0.2.

I usually go back and forth between AOKP and Liquid Smooth. Both are great ROMs.

Tell me about it! LOL First thing I do is change that boot animation.

flintlock: for me, it's not really about which ROM is better or worse or who has the best tweaks, but which one I get better battery life or performance out of. And it gives me that. But people do find that results may vary from phone to phone.
