Okay. Found some instructions...installed and ran sdk..now have access to adb through my mac terminal (equivalent of cmd).

Here's the thing...I put in the battery
pressed volume up and volume down + power
    It vibrates once
Then volume up x 2 + power button
I guess that's how I access through adb?
    STILL DOESN"T RECOGNIZE PHONE

    I know it's booted and stuff...but what's wrong?

You will need the correct drivers for an ADB device I think. I know you do with a PC but I'm not sure about a Mac. If your phone is booting then I'm pretty sure we can save your files one way or another. If someone with ADB knowledge on a Mac knows how to get it recognized, it's just one simple command to copy your entire SD card to your computer. Unfortunately I'm not familiar with Mac and can't really provide much help until you get it recognized. Hopefully someone around here is. I will try to do some research after work for you. Try doing a search for "getting adb recognized on a mac" in the meantime and see if you come across anything helpful.

Alright, so I looked around on the net for a minute and you shouldn't have any driver problems on a Mac, I guess that's one good thing about them I did forget though that you need to have "USB Debugging" turned on under developer options on the phone for ADB to recognize the device. I'm pretty sure stock doesn't have that on by default, can't remember, it's been so long since I've been on stock lol if your phone is booting though, which it seems it is, your Mac should recognize it as a MTP device and should show up and give you access to the folders on the SD card. If it isn't, then I don't think it is booting all the way up. I'm going to sit and ponder what other options might be available and let you know

    Edit:
Ok so try this, plug your phone in to your computer, hold down vol up + vol down + power like you were, then instead of hitting the vol twice, just hit the power button after you feel it vibrate and you've waited about 20 seconds or so. Let it sit for a couple of minutes and see if your Mac decides to recognize it as an MTP device and let's you look through the SD folders. If it does, copy those folders to your computer and unplug that baby, set up your new one, and send that broken thing back maybe you'll get lucky, who knows lol

Yes for adb to see the phone, usb debugging needs to be turned on..one suggestion is.. if you have access to a pc, plug into a usb port. Turn the phone as you did where it vibrates. When the pc see a device, you will hear a ding or so, and start searching for drivers.. You can try that if you want..

Tried, tried, and tried! Nothing recognizes...so I guess the phone isn't booting after all. It does give vibration feedback, although we can now conclude that it is some kind of malfunction?

Anyway...I'm glad I came here for help. You guys were awesome!
I can salvage the motherboard/data card before sending it back. Will that help at all?

Thanks again to everybody who contributed!

Well if you can put the phone back together as it was if the ppl on the other side does not know you took the phone apart.. There is a site that opens all the phones wit instructions (I think) that can show you how. But I have no idea if there they can know..
