What was your remedy? Blowoff tube instead? My cider started bubbling 1-2 bubbles per second about 6 hours after I put it in the carboy so I'm pleased with that.

So here's my plan for this cider. Simple but it's my first fermentation of any kind so it's still a big deal to me. I used 4 gallons of Musselman's apple cider because it's all I could come up with that didn't have preservatives. Also 2 pounds of brown sugar to up the ABV. Going to let it sit 3 weeks in the carboy and then rack to my bottling bucket that will contain a cinnamon/Splenda concoction to put some flavor back in it. Then another couple weeks in 1/2 gallon bottles. Sound drinkable?

Well after making and cleaning up a huge mess, I just sanitized a new airlock and replaced it; i just lost enough to where i thought it was safe
.. what I really should have done was just use my larger fermenter, there just wasn't enough airspace in the one I used. I've actually thought of using a blowoff tube, I may just do that to be safe next time.
I've never really tried cider before, but are you planning to prime it also in addition to the splenda concoction before bottling, to carbonate it?

No I was just planning to leave it still. I make apple pie every year and like it just fine flat so I was figuring that would be okay here too.

lol, if you figure out a way to carbonate apple pie, let me know
I think you should be good then, sounds tasty, the hardest part is not drinking all of it before it ages, all the way, try to keep a few bottles for a month or two, those will no doubt be the best tasting ones..
Do you have recipe that tells you how much splenda to use? I know a little of that stuff goes a long way.

Not a recipe really I just found a bunch of stuff like this and decided to go with 3/4 cup for my 4 gallons. I like it pretty sweet so if that doesn't cut it I can always add a little bit more on a per-bottle basis.

I've never brewed a RIS, so this will be fun. My specialty is Belgians.
