I have heard rumors to the effect that there is a degree of tension between Verizon and Samsung/Google at the moment. The delay may be a symptom of that tension.

You would think they'd all be unified at least in the desire to part us from our money.
Well, I can't say a lot, but in general the story I heard goes like this - Verizon went out and made a good deal with Samsung/Google to have a temporary exclusive on the phone. OK, cool beans - except that Verizon was preparing to install their usual amount of bloatware on it (they either didn't realize, or didn't *care* that Google has a special feeling about their Developer Phone), Google stepped in and said "Wait a minute, you can't put that junk on our flagship" and Verizon got really mad. The story goes on to say that Verizon then threatened to walk away from the deal, Google said "You do that and we will no longer certify our OS on Verizon phones", and there it stands.
Is the story true? I have no idea, but it is a *plausible* explanation for the delays and the odd lack of advertising or show of any enthusiasm on the part of Verizon.

I was about to suggest a similar situation. I would agree that's likely the issue. We all know how much VZW loves putting their paid versions of free google apps on their phones (VZW Navigation VS Google Navigation). Plus ICS allows users to remove/disable any system apps, which also probably doesn't sit pretty with vzw.
Whatever the case may be, they need to come to terms with the fact that a developer phone is pure google, no ands ifs or buts, then give us what they promised us.

Thanx for the feedback...i will take it for what it's worth but definitely seems to be a "plausible" explanation as you put it...either way i'm waiting (im)patiently for this phone...as i know many others are!!!
I think you hit on something key, leach. ICS allows removal of system apps. That's a bit of lost monetization for VZW. Couple that with the GN being attractive mostly to people who would ordinarily root their phones ... reduced revenue stream. Why would they want to sell a phone like that?
