There were some pretty big changes since M5. I always recommend a wipe, but if you really don't want to you can try without one. If everything seems ok stick with it, if not you'll need to wipe data.

**noob question alert**
alright, now that I've warned you guys: Finally ready to start running custom roms on my GNex after owning it for a few months, only reason I stayed stock was I wanted to finally get a feel for good 'ol Vanilla flavored Android since my last two Android devices were rooted and ROM'd.
Question is: when switching to AOKP, do you guys recommend a full wipe?
saw this on their site:highly recommended: wipe data/factory reset in recovery - absolutely required if coming from another ROM or AOKP that is running Android 4.0.3
Since I'm already on 4.04 and stock, I was wondering if that applied.
If there's a better thread to ask such questions, just let me know as well.

Yes you must wipe if coming from stock. You should wipe if coming from anything other then AOKP. If your on AOKP already but are a few builds behind I recommend a wipe then too. It never hurts to wipe. Makes trouble shooting a bit easier too

Make a backup ...clear cache and dalvik ..flash 40 and gapps....if everything good you're golden ...if issues arise ...cache dalvik and data clear from start and flash again and set up new...
