    circle icon with 4 line (like a rotary)

    On the first home screen is a bar with 5 icons (wifi, bluetooth, ??, sync, screen brightness). What is the middle one for??

    dont have the nexus yet, but based on my Tbolt and the power control widget, its the GPS

    I turned off the GPS in the power control widget to save battery life, but I appear to still be getting some location services (the weather channel app updated my location when I came to work).

    Is the GPS truly off? Is the phone using cell towers to determine approximate location?

    Yes. If you have network location turned on, apps will use that to determine location.
