This is cool. I wonder if this would have worked on my Iconia a500 tab while I was going thru the same thing with it. Only, I was waiting for an upgrade from Honeycomb, to ICS. Apparently, I needed the update from 3.2 to 3.2.1 H.C. before I could ICS upgrade, then I immediately got the ICS update right after...... like 5 minutes after reboot. While everyone else with a500's was getting their ICS goodies, I was stuck behind because for some reason Google/Acer neglected to give me prior update. (3.2.1 H.C.)
This probably would have saved me a whole three weeks, and a bunch of whining.
I don't see why this wouldn't work, as the settings that are messed with seem universal to every Android I have seen. This tip is permanently added to goodies bookmark folder. Thanks !!!!
Galaxy Nexus (GSM):
ICS: 4.1.1 ROM: JB-AOKP Build 1 Kernel: Samurai Akira Kernel
Acer Iconia a500 tab:
ICS: 4.0.3 ROM: FlexReaper RF-1 Extreem Edition rv2 Kernel: Tweaked stock

I just forced mine and it worked like a charm! What differences has everyone noticed? I can tell its snappier! And the keyboard is great!

The signal seems better. And like a lot have said already - seems more snappy, and smooth. Also no lag selecting the app history button to sideswipe to close them. I have also noticed that when I am online and in some apps that it no longer has duplicate letters - i.e. when you type "don" and it has "don't" as an option to select, in 4.0.2 it would put "dontt" in the text field instead of " don't." Now it does it right. For me, that was the most annoying thing. That and the lag when you go from portrait to landscape and visa verse and verse visa. There is less to no lag there, either.

Home/menu/settings/apps/all/google services framework/
Touch this.
Once it opens clear data and force stop it.
Hit home/settings/about phone/check for updates.
It took me 7-8 times doing it, and then it started downloading the update, installed, and no problems at all. Some of the other people on that forum did it 3 times and it worked, some did it 15 and it worked, and of course some did it a lot and nothing happened.
Nothing is lost by clearing the data and force stopping it, so no fear there.
Give it a shot, you really have nothing to loose but about 10 minutes of time............and you have a lot to gain if it works.

STEVE,
Thanks so much for the info. It worked for me on the 4th try.

I have done the framework trick numerous times. I am able to get my phone to download the IMM76K update, but when the phone does its automatic restart to complete the registration, it freezes on the black screen that says "Google" on it. I then have to disconnect the battery to get the phone to start up and then I am back to 4.02 since the update doesnt complete. Can anyone help me with this?

SCORE! mine worked on the second try.
but on mine. i never left the settings screen. i just cleared the framework data.
then backed outta the apps menu, but stayed in the settings menu. then checked for update and BINGO!
i have no idea if that helped or not,but... it definately worked somehow!

Yep I tried it several times unsuccessfully when I exited out of settings after clearing framework, but the first time I stayed in settings it worked.

can you be rooted and do this or no need?

We won't lose anything by clearing data right? Also , is this just for people in the US?
