How to update to 4.0.4?

Hi there.

I have an unlocked Galaxy Nexus since December. yakju, stock 4.0.2, unlocked bootloader, rooted.

The first update it got was OTA, before it was unlocked and rooted.
I've been reading about the 4.0.4 update in the last days with the signal bug, then heard about the fixed 4.0.4, so I want to install it.

The problem is I never got the notification, and the system says it's up to date.
I want to know if this is a normal issue, either related to the device being rooted or anything else.

And I want to know if I should just flash the latest 4.0.4 or if I need to flash IMM76D first and then IMM76I.

I tried a method I found online to "force" the OTA update deleting the data of the app Google Services Framework but it didn't work.

It's definitely a normal issue if you haven't received the OTA update yet. Not everyone has. If you want to simply update, you can do this:

2. Guide: Update from Yakju 4.0.4 IMM76D to Yakju 4.0.4 IMM76I

From what i have gathered, there isn't a full flashable IMM76I yet so you still need to go thru IMM76D then update it. You lose root of course but you can always root back.

So the next doubt is:
Will flashing these files delete any data (pics, apps, settings) on my phone? (I understand that the unlocking deleted my data and that's already done, but now I read it mentions that the IMM76D update is a full ROM, so I was just worried).

it would delete data. you can simply back up your files. from the IMM76D to IMM76I though, since it is an incremental update, data, if you already have on your device, remains intact.

(and then the IMM76I link that you posted above).

Just in case, I'm still on 4.0.2, do you think that if I wait I'll be getting these updates OTA?

I also have that file. that is the update from 4.0.2 to 4.0.4 IMM76D. You can use my number 2 guide to flash the link: http://android.clients.google.com/pa...F.7f97fbc1.zip. after that, you can either wait for the OTA for IMM76I or follow guide 2 again this time using the file in the original post. Hope this helps.

So this would let me update without losing data, right? (anyway I do have a backup).


Sorry to ask so much, but I always get confused about which steps erase my phone's data.


Any reason to use the stock 4.0.4 IMM76D instead of the update?

for incremental update, data will be intact. some people reported issues with IMM76D that's why they prefer the newest IMM76I. i guess it would really depend on your region. don't worry at all about asking a lot. it's better than assuming. i also ask a lot of questions.

Done. After manually updating from 4.0.2 to 4.0.4 IMM76D I got the OTA update for IMM76I.
Everything is working fine.


Now (maybe) the last question,
Which file do I use to root it again?

i'm not much of a root user so i can only suggest this [ROM] IMM76I ROM with root, busybox, and tweaks - xda-developers. i personally haven't tried though so i can't give any feedback if it works. sorry
