Hey Phantom! I remember you from the old Nexus One forum, it seems like a long time ago . I ended up with a Nexus S and still have it. Now my son has a Galaxy Nexus stuck at 4.0.1, not rooted, Build # ITL41F.I9250UGKLI (on Bell Canada, a very very slow company)....can I just follow your update to 4.0.4 and then your update to 4.1? Thanks for all your great help back then and now!

Hey man. How are things? Actually if you do the steps for doing ics 4.0.4 here, jb would automatically download to your device

Phantom...awesome guide...made the "upgrade" so smooth. Was running 4.0.1 with a Samsung build (clueless customer service reps). Decided to apply the yakju build and now I am running Jelly Bean. Upgrade was flawless. Again, many thanks.

Dude this was by far the best method out there.
I tried all the other ones and was always running into crap of some sorts.
Did all the steps, was running 4.0.4 in no time.
Cleared google framework and update was available right away.
Now running Jelly Bean 4.1.1 with no problems at all.
    Flawless
    Thank you so much.

And for those who wanna know, i was on Yakjuux (Virgin Mobile Canada)

Sorry to be a pain and if this has been asked before: I'm not sure what you mean in step 1 by installing device drivers twice, is this the Windows Device Manager your are referring to below: 1) Note: do make sure you already have the drivers installed for your device to run. you can do a google search for the needed samsung drivers; (For those that are having a hard time getting the drivers installed properly, the easiest is to just download the latest version of Kies, run it and close it. It updates your drivers automatically). Do note you need to install the drivers twice. Once when the phone is not connected for adb to read and once when in fastboot mode. You can use Device Manager in making the second installation.

Also, if I unlock the bootloader does this void the warranty?

P.S. I still go on the old N1 forum for old times sake, not much there anymore

Drivers have to be installed twice because the 2 modes needed for this to work are regular phone mode and fastboot mode. Sometimes you need to either update or reinstall the driver in fastboot mode so that the commands work. Fastboot mode is simply turning off the phone then turn it on by pressing volume up and down simultaneously and then the power button. From there you can check the device manager if the. Is recognized without error. A couple of suggestions for drivers if they don't update well are pdanet drivers or universal naked drivers.

Unlocking the bootloader does void warranty but it is very much relockable anytime by typing 'fastboot oem lock'. It's unlike the nexus one wherein you can't relock the bootloader

When we do this step " 4) Unlock your bootloader: fastboot oem unlock "
Does it mean the phone is unlocked and can be used with any company ???

No. Just the bootloader gets unlocked. You are looking for carrier unlock. Most likely needs to be done by your carrier.
