Question Brand New to unlocking/rooting my Nexus

I have been researching on the web different ways to unlock and root my phone, but it seems like I'm doomed to fail at this. Everything seems to be a bit outdated now. I have the Verizon Nexus running the 4.2.2 OS. I've tried WugFresh and that didn't work. They don't have the latest 4.2.2 version. I've roughly attempted manually doing it, but it's like a 400 step process that I get lost inside of. I've gotten as far as backing up everything on my PC and loading up the ADK Manager, but when I get to the point of going to a command prompt on my PC, it just won't link to my phone properly. Is there a recent guide to updating my specific phone/version that someone can point me towards? I'm also quite ready to admit I'm slow or dumb with this now. I used to know my PCs so well, but I guess I'm losing my touch since I rarely screw with any of it anymore. I was able to root my motorola OG droid over a year ago and it seemed easy in comparison. Someone help if you can.

    Thank you,
    Marshall

Yes. I have Cyanogenmod 10.0 on my phone now. It was quite the b*tch to fix as I ended up soft-bricking my phone, but I learned a little more on how to do this in the future. I ended up having to reinstall the drivers on my PC a few different times in order for my phone to be recognized on the bootloader screen. I then booted back to stock via Wugs and started the whole process of rooting again. Since the drivers were finally recognized, it went a little smoother in rooting. There's a lot more details, but all in all it's done and I'm quite happy now.
