Unable to Voice Text or Voice Dail My Nexus won't find my Contacts

Not sure how to explain this.. but here's what it does. I'll click on the mic icon at the top in the Google window.. and say "Send Text To Cathy Smith Hey cathy lets do lunch" and what happens is.. it never..and I mean never
puts anything in the To: Field. It always leaves the To: field blank..and puts everything I say after saying "send text" in the message field.. so it would look like this... SEND TEXT TO: MESSAGE: to cathy smith hey cathy lets do lunch
so.. I try then to do voice dialing.. same thing.. I can say.. CALL CATHY and it just sits and looks at me..

I've gone into my contacts and made sure they are sync'ing with gmail ... I've checked to make sure I'm set to English ... I don't know how to finally get it to fill something in the To field..
my friend has an older version of android on his phone..and his works fine.. he says the exact same thing on my phone.. and if fails.. I have never even by accident seen it
put anything in the TO: field..

any ideas on this?

I feel your pain and have the same issue. The reason this happened is because of the google voice widget - I wanted to have access to the microphone icon from the upper right hand corner of the screen (not easy for me using right hand) and moved the widget to the home screen so that I could put the mic icon in the lower right hand part of the screen. Right after that I experienced the same issues. I took the phone into a verizon store and the guy at the counter had a Nexus too. He implemented the widget and his functionality with contacts was gone. Just to verify, he tried the same thing on the store phone. Same results. I called Verizon - they were clueless and finally suggested a factory reset (I haven't done that yet). I called Samsung and they weren't even aware that you could use the phone in that way (arses). I stopped back into the Verizon store a week later (yesterday) and they guy said both phones were still not functioning for voice and text with contacts. I am very frustrated. I've tried removing the widget and no luck so far. I guess the voice thing is not something you can remove and reinstall so I'm waiting to find out what is going on. Hoping SOMEONE here might have some ideas????

Have you tried specifying a number to call or text? Such as, "call Shannon mobile" or "text Shannon mobile, I'll meet you for lunch" works every time for me.

vLingo doesn't let me call with my voice either. very frustrating. Any solutions?
