Problems rebooting after encryption

Hi,
I just got a Galaxy Nexus about three weeks ago or so, and I decided to encrypt it. The encryption went fine, but it seems to have introduced a small bug. I used a PIN to unlock the phone, but if I turn it off and back on then it prompts me for an alphanumeric password. If I type in the PIN as if it were the password the phone briefly shows an image of the little green dude and then shuts off. Once it has shut off I am unable to turn it back on for a few minutes unless I plug it into a power source. If I plug it in or wait for a few minutes it turns on and prompts me for my PIN and I am able to unlock it without any problem. This only happens when I turn it off and back on: the screen lock prompts me for a PIN without any problem. Any theories about what's going on?
