To root? Or not to root?

I understand that there's lots of advantages to rooting. It does seem a bit difficult to do? I'm on jellybean . I am a newbie. I did jb iPhones a few times.

Is it pretty simple? Shall I use the "Galaxy nexus root kit"? Simplest for me? And probably the biggest question is I've had the device a few days now, installed apps and contacts etc. can I save this and once rooted get it back?

    Thanks

Sorry if alot of this is posted but it's very confusing when I google, research rooting and find tonnes of different sites and different ways to do this.

This site has everything you need to root. The nexus is really easy. A lot of people have used wugs toolkit to root. I would search for his toolkit in here download it and read every direction twice and then read again. Don't be afraid to ask questions

The hardest part of the toolkit is getting the drivers installed correct.

Yep used a Mac for quite awhile now. But I have a cheap netbook I bought 2 yrs ago which I hate and it's awful. Off topic but never buy asus. Nothing but trouble from customer service!

Well, he *does* have a point. The company will not answer any inquiries about an expected ship date for any additional stock to stores. Not even broad time frames.
