Unwanted Apps showing up on my home screen for no obvious reason

This is a discussion on Unwanted Apps showing up on my home screen for no obvious reason within the Galaxy Nexus Help forums, part of the Galaxy Nexus Support Forum category; I think all you need to do is go into settings > apps, find the app and select it, and uncheck "show notifications". Cool feature...thanks ...

Hello, and thanks for the suggestion.

Since this feature is supposed to be built into JB, I'd rather get it working properly.
The long press (similar to right-click?) is supposed to bring up the new window. I'm not sure yet how to make that happen.

It's shown in the video (but that's on a tablet). I'd like the same thing to work on my GNEX.

It does the exact same thing. The long press is simply a shortcut to it, and that only works if you've just installed the app, and you long press the notification in the pulldown.

If you do it from settings > apps, it gives you the same popup that says "turn off notifications?", etc.

Thanks again - and you're right. I still don't understand why the long press is "broken" sometime after an app is installed, but I can do this the way you've suggested, so mission accomplished.

From what you're telling me - all the weather apps I've messed around with, several of which insist on clogging up my notifications with their reports, will stop doing so if I un-check that box. Excellent. Between this and all the earlier topics, the advertising that used to bug me so much has stopped completely.
