It could be a bad download of factory image file was flashed in Odin. Back to the problem at hand. I would pull battery and sim and just walk away for an hour or two. Put sim and battery back and try getting into download mode again.
Hold volume down and power buttons until you see the download screen again. If you can get into Odin then delete your odin files and download new ones. I would also suggest uninstalling both root tool kits from your pc (just trying to make sure you don't have any conflicts with Odin).

Also make sure you have the newest version of Odin and are putting the files in the correct places in odin. There could have been something wrong with the radios you had on there. If you could get in to recovery I've got a flashable radio package that you could flash and then try to do the return to 4.0.4 stuff and see if it will stop hanging on the CDMA radio file.

Here is the screen i'm dealing with (pulled from google image search).

I just woke up to these suggestions so I have pulled the battery and sim and will wait an hour or so.

I have been trying to enter boot screens both connected and disconnected.

In the meantime I will delete the ODIN files I used earlier and try new ones as well as uninstall other toolkits. I would really appreciate a set of links to recent, known working, versions of all of these as I am unsure exactly where to look for them. The ones that I downloaded earlier all came as a result of hyperlinking around various forums so I have no idea if I actually got the most recent (or even working) files.

Thanks again for all of the assistance. This is a pretty amazing response.

Quick Update: I had the battery and sim out for about four hours and just tried a boot to download screen (as well as fastboot and regular boot) with the same result as before. I have removed all software from my PC and will be downloading ODIN and all images again in a moment. Will update with where I get. Thanks!

No luck on the most recent attempt with fresh everything. I am now working my way around to all possible USB ports on my PC laptop with ODIN, just in case. Still hanging on radio-cdma.

Can anyone recommend a solution to try on my Mac? I have deleted all files associated with the processes described above and I'm ready to start fresh again.

    Thanks!

Quick question. Is your phone in download mode when you are trying odin? I thought you could not boot into download mode.

It is not in download mode. I still can only get the screen i put up earlier. However, ODIN does recognize the phone, and the phone displays a progress bar when I run the process. It just hangs on the cdma-radio as per usual. The phone is recognized a 0:[COM-4] in the program. 0:[COM4] is highlighted yellow.

Even tho it seems that your phone is being recognized by Odin, you will not have success flashing the stock image if you are not in the download mode.

OK. So, does this mean that I am out of options until I figure out how to get into download mode? Note: Mac no longer recognizes the phone at all.
