easier to root/flash on PC or Mac?

I bought a Nexus and looking into rooting and flashing. I currently use a Mac. I do have an older netbook running windoze.

Can I root/flash easily on Mac or would it be better to do this on my netbook?

And are their tutorials in this forum?

Windows would be easier as most tools/ drivers are windows based.

I think all I really want to do at this point is change my phone so that I get the updates from google rather than samsung or my cell provider-fido. Is there a method to go from yakjuux?

I changed the builds so that I get updates from google and not my cell provider or Samsung.

Question: if I erase back to factory settings do I lose the google build?

No you don't. Factory settings would bring you back to the latest installed build on your device
