nope i hear it click like i took one then nothing...i dl pudding camera and that works i just cant figure out how to zoom in or out maybe a different camera app ??
Try clearing data for the camera and see if that straightens it out. There are some other camera apps in Market if not.

Camera 360 and Camera Zoom FX are also great alternatives.
-end of line-
Camera ICS is better than stock too.

camera ics does the same exact thing flash like a picture is snapped then makes a noise not shutter sound kinda like a blink ( if you say blink that what it sounds like lol ) then no photo to be seen almost like an error happened i cleared cache and pudding and 360 work weird that the stock and modified stock dont
just an update here ,
" unfortunately , phone has stopped working " .....
this messaged fixed it all up lol --i had to reflash stock , relock , reunlock , re root... now camera works again ..
that message i could not clear off my phone via battery pull or anything... it would darken my screen and show that message with a report or ok to hit and you hit one option and it just came right back......
FYI the only thing i had done was unlock and root before the trouble started no other alterations kinda weird ...
Glad you got it straightened out!

It happened the same to my stock camera app. Identical situation! And I could solve only with a total wipe from the phone to stock 4.0.4
Maybe we are note the only one...???
