    Voicemail notification calls my phone?

    Hello everyone,

Just a new GN user here and hope this issue hasn't been addressed already since I was unable to find any answer related to what I am experiencing. If it has, please redirect me to the correct thread.

I bought the GSM unlocked version from Google last week. I am on T-Mobile USA. I did get a new sim card activated and things have been smooth as far as i know except for one thing; voice mail.

I noticed that if I miss a call and the caller leaves a voice mail, my phone calls itself. By that I mean my phone rings (as if someone were calling), but shows my mobile number calling me. I answer it and it dials a number then hangs up. After that I can check my voice mail fine when holding down the 1 key or dialing 123.

I did get the 4.0.4 update last week.

    Some questions:

    1) Has/does anyone else experience this problem on their unlocked device or Sprint/Verizon device?
    2) Is this a feature for ICS or unlocked models?
    3) Is there anyway to change this setting?
    4) Could it be the device and/or the SIM card?

Things I had tried and still having problems:

    a) I went to dialer option and the Voice mail service is set to My Carrier (that's the only option that can be chosen)
    b) I reset my phone to factory settings with no apps installed. I had my brother call and leave a voice mail, still the same issue as stated above.
    c) I had asked a few coworkers if they had this issue, none that they heard of or experienced. Either they are on Verizon/Sprint.

    Phone specs:

    Android Version: 4.0.4
    Baseband Version: I9250XXLA2
    Kernel Version: 3.0.8-gda6252b
    andoid build@vpbs1 #1
SMP PREEEMPT Fri April 13 11:35:09 PDT 2012
    Build number: IMM76I

Pretty much stock OS and I'm not Rooted.

I hope this information helps and someone here can shed some light for this issue.
Sorry for the long post, thanks for reading.

Is it possible that voicemail settings for your carrier has your number placed in as default which is why the phone calls itself?

    Thanks for the response.

I see what you're saying and thought about that too.
I went into Call Settings>Voicemail Settings. I checked and it's set to a +1805xxxxxxx number.
Unless it's supposed to be set to another number?

I believe you need to check that with the carrier for clarification. I try to avoid activating my voicemail so people know that if not available, i'm really not available.

Forgot to mention. Check your call forwarding settings as well

    I'm back.

So today after work I stopped by the T-Mobile store where I got the new sim a couple of weeks ago. I asked the reps and they haven't heard of this issue before. We tried looking for the setting to blacklist my own number so it would stop calling me when I get voice mail. Since it was ICS they weren't too familiar with it.

The rep also mentioned that unlocked phones have some features not work on the user's respective network. I'm sure that's true and might be the case with me?

He did advise to call T-Mobile Care have them help me through some stuff to try out like the blacklist option or something with my voice mail box.

I checked my call forwarding settings and it's set to that 1805xxxxxxx number (vm box) for when busy, unanswered, and unreachable.

I don't know, just kind of weird that this is happening. I wonder what T-Mobile support would say.
I'll work with them and see what I find out.

    Issue resolved !!!

Ok, I probably should have done this in the first place, but I searched on T-Mobile's website and found some helpful tips regarding voice mail issues.
I was surprised to see there was a topic/info for this specific problem.

    Support: Voicemail troubleshooting: Phone-first handsets

I followed the prompts and entered the 10 digit number (805xxxxxxx) as the pager number and it worked! It was set to my cell number by default for some reason, but after completing those steps everything works like a charm.

I tested with another phone and left a few messages just to make sure this wasn't a fluke and everything's ok.

I thought it was a setting with the phone/OS itself, but turns out it was the network/carrier settings on the network.

Thank you thephantom for your responses and tips/hints.

Now it's time to lurk the forums lol.

    Thanks again.
