Camera not working
The last couple of days, opening up the camera app gives me a message "Cannot connect to camera". I reboot the phone and it works once, but then stops soon afterward. Anyone else know what could be causing this?
I'm completely stock, on the CDMA version. Are there any apps that could cause something like this? I have tried to figure out what I have installed lately that might be responsible, but I can't think of anything.
I'm beginning to think I've got a defective device.

It's possible there is an app..but you might have to do a factory reset and if the problem is still there it might be defective
Try Settings > Apps > All > Camera and Clear data.
Tapped via Galaxy Nexus LTE..
I had the same issue a few days ago. Clearing the app data and cache fixed it.

Reboot. Turn off and turn on the device

My camera just started acting up the last two weeks or so as well. I just get a black screen. I have to turn the phone off and back on then wait for it to boot up again. By then I've lost my shot at the pic or have some people getting irritated about saying cheese for so long. When the phone is on again the camera works, but I never know for how long. I've even done a factory reset on it and it's still randomly happens. Weird.

same prob here but I've found a workaround
I'm running takju 4.2.1 OTA jellybean on my unlocked gsm galaxy nexus which I purchased from the play store. I've faced this issue for about a week now and have been searching for a solution frantically, I tried clearing gallery cache(which didn't work) and rebooting (which would only get it to work for a while)
I've finally found a way to get it to work though without too much of hassle, hold your device horizontally while opening the camera app either from the lock screen or otherwise. I've tested it a bit and this is the only thing that works consistently. I haven't quite understood what the problem is out why this workaround works but it does. I'll be doing more testing into this issue to find out what exactly the problem is. I hope I helped at least someone who came for answers here like me. Cheers!!!
I have the 4.2 camera and don't like it, is there a way to get the stock camera back?
