    WiFi Connection Issue

I'm new to the Forum and if this is the wrong place let me know after it's moved to the right place!

I have a Verizon GN and have an issue aquiring my local, WEP protected, home network. When I select the WiFi opition in "Settings" the network is detected with a signal strength of "Good" to "Excellent." When I put in the WEP code and attempt to connect I get the "Obtaining IP Address" message and the signal strength drops to "Poor." I haven't moved and am sitting about 6 feet from the router (Linksys). I'm on try number 3. The first one I aborted after three min. and retried. Try number 2 failed when the GN gave a message that it had "ignored a poor WiFi connection" (the wording is approximate). Try number three is still running after 15 min. but won't connect.

Is this a device error or an error on my part?

Thanks, in advance, for any help.

    S.

Im not an expert so hopefully someone else will chime in. To me it sounds like a router issue. Do you have anything else connected to the WiFi network? If so try disableing them (laptop, kindle etc.) then try to connect your device. I know with my belkin if I have my laptop runnng, wifes laptop running and her kindle fire running my signal will drop tremedously. Sometimes I can't even connect. HTH

Totally agree with the possibility of the router being the issue.
I owned a trendnet that worked great for connecting 2 laptops, but a soon as we connected a cell phone, the signal would drop and all devices would suffer. I ended up getting a new router, now I have 2 laptops, 1 desktop, 2 smartphones, and an ipad connected with no issues.

Probably because you are using wep which is very outdated and not secure. Change the wireless security on the router to wpa and it should work

    The problem is solved.

First, I give myself a Below Average 'cause the solution was so simple. I also give one to phone in Verizon Tech Support for the same reason.

The Above Average goes to the nice young lady at the Turkey Creek (in Knoxville) Verizon store who fixed it this a.m.

After I could not connect I was frustrated. This morning I had an appointment at the Univ. of TN Medical Center. While in the waiting area I remembered that they had public WiFi connection, so I tried it. Same thing I saw at home: Fair to Good signal that went to Poor then Ignore when I tried to connect. Bad phone, for sure. After my wife and I left we stopped at the Verizon store and I told her my story. The first thing she did was remove the battery. One soft reset and voilą, problem solved. She tested the phone and it connected flawlessly to the Verizon WiFi network in the store. I then went to Panera's for lunch and tried there. It detected and connected, but would not let me access the network. I did a soft reset and voilą, problem solved. Again.

When I got home I hooked up to my home network without a hitch.

Lesson Learned: A soft reset is the Silver Bullet for a lot of problems!!!
Thanks to all, here, who tried to help. Remember the Silver Bullet!!!!!

Turn off phone, pull battery, wait few minutes, reboot.
