Transfer text or spreadsheet file from PC to GN?

I see the "docs" app on the GN and understand how to create docs in it, but can I copy or move an existing document or spreadsheet from my PC to the phone? when its plugged in via USB I see the folders for music, ringtones, photos, etc and have finally figured out how to copy music and photos to it. Do I have to upload the document or spreadsheet from the PC to Google and then sync with the phone? thanks! (this is first Android phone I've owned; am used to BlackBerry.)

Maybe overkill, but I've been using DropBox on my main desktop and a few laptops now for a couple years. Basically you install DropBox on your PC, move whatever files and folder contents you want to keep backed up and synched into the DropBox folder, and in the background all files in your DropBox folder get copied up to your account in the cloud. Then any changes you make on files on your desktop or laptop (or tablet, etc.) get copied up there and automatically synched to your other DropBox devices except of course your cell phone where storage is limited. The Android app for DropBox is compatible with your GN, so after you install the app on your GN and fire it off, you see the complete file directory of your cloud's DropBox folder and you can just pull down whatever files you need and store them locally on the GN. There are lots of other things you can do with DropBox, but it is one solution to always having access to files that are important to you. Just knowing that I always have access to the most current versions of my stuff lets me sleep better, plus it's offsite backup as well... DropBox has a free version up to either 2 or 5GB ( I can't remember) but the 50 GB version is around $100 a year.
