Help - Unlocked & Rooted, Can't flash

So I reset my phone today w/ a plan to flash the new 4.1 preview. Went through these instructions: How To Unlock and Root The Verizon Galaxy Nexus (Easy Way) to unlock and then root with the exceptions of the driver update as I already had them from my rooted 4.0.4 update done here: [HOW-TO] [GSM & CDMA] Root without Unlocking Bootloader via exploit (for 4.0.1/4.0.2) - xda-developers.

My issue now is I can't get into recovery mode. (Sideways droid w/ the !)
Adb shell and su get's me the super user prompt, but a devices command returns nothing.
Trying to run RomManager but it's not seeming to request SU permissions thus everything fails w/ lack of permissions and I can't figure out why it doesn't escelate its permission.


I'm stuck, frustrated, and hoping for some help at this point.

You need a modified su.zip to root 4.0.4. Can't provide a link at the moment but its around.

Saw that online, but unfortunately I didn't have access to anything on my phone so I couldn't update the SU. I just installed the Wugs kit and think I may have brute forced my way through it. I had it redo the root w/ the CWM and that seemed to work. Now I"m just trying to get the JB on there... Currently looking at a multi colored X on start up.... Not sure what it means but seems to be a step in the right direction.

Sounds like boot animation. How long has it been going?

I let it go 15 minutes.. Gave up and did a battery pull. It seemed to hang again.
I pulled the battery again, booted into recovery. Did a wipe data, wipe cache, wipe that other dvak (something like that) cache in advanced and reapplied my zip for JB. Let that finish rebooted and this time it took about 3 minutes to get me to the "welcome to your phone" screen.

HELL YEAH I'M PULLING DOWN MY APPS AGAIN! Hopefully no more boot issues or I'll flash the stock boot.img

There have been a lot of problems with JB booting but you did all the right things. Glad you got it booted.

Now a new issue. Location services don't seem to work at all. Google Maps displays: "Your current location is temporarily unavailable" WTF?

In one of the custom Jelly Bean ROM threads I saw a GPS fix. Can't remember which one at the moment. Will take a look tomorrow.

I'd appreciate that, someone told me to delete the maps.apk and reload it from the store, but I haven't figured out how to do that yet.
