update yakjuxw IMM76K to JRO03C failed :-(
Hi there
About one week ago my Galaxy Nexus (rooted, unlocked, 4.0.4) told me that there's an OTA update available. It bugged me the whole week and I always had to click "Install later". Now I decided to do the update process (I knew from last time - I9250XWKL2 ICL53F to I9250XWLD2 IMM76K - that it doesn't work if I click "Install now" but that I can do the update using this great toolkit here).
So I grabbed my notes from last time and tried to do the update using the latest Nexus Root Toolkit Version (1.5.3). I did the following steps (which worked some time ago updating from ICL53F to IMM76K using the Galaxy Nexus Root Toolkit v1.4):- Copied the ZIP file 63aad6c75080.update_yakjuxw_IMM76K_to_JRO03C.zip from /cache to my PC
- Removed the whole "recovery" folder in the ZIP file
- Copied the modified ZIP file to my phone in the folder /sdcard
- Used the Nexus Root Toolkit (Model Type: Galaxy Nexus GSM/HSPA+ Android 4.0.4 IMM76K) to do "Boot Temporary" > "Custom Recovery"
- In TWRP I chose Install, selected the ZIP and confirmed flashing
=> Unfortunately at step 5 the installation failed, these are the last lines of the log (interestingly at the top it says "Zip Install Complete"):
Code:
[...]
Patching boot image...
Unpacking new files...
Unpacking new recovery...
Symlinks and permissions...
set_perm: some changes failed
E: Error in /sdcard/63aad6c75080.update_yakjuxw_I
(Status 7)
* Verifying filesystems...
* Verifying partition sizes...
Error flashing zip '/sdcard/63aad6c75080.update_
I tried step 4/5 again using CWM instead of TWRP but with the same result :-(
Also the phone does not boot correctly anymore, it is stuck at the screen with the white Google logo and unlock icon.
Any ideas what went wrong and what I could do to get a working phone again? Preferably without losing all my data/apps/settings...?

Yay! After some more hours of googling (and also already finding my own post btw ;-)) I stumbled upon the following post:
[REF] [HOW-TO] [GSM & CDMA] Official Google OTA update URLs -- Latest: JRO03C 4.1.1 - Page 93 - xda-developers
=> You MUST NOT remove the recovery folder!
Fortunately I still had an untouched version of the ZIP file on my phone so I could choose that one to install and it worked :-)
It's rebooting now (Optimizing app 43 of 91.)

Hello, I'm a complete n00b when it comes to root/flashing/etc on my phone because i was afraid i would do something bad to my phone. I heard that the wugs nexus root toolkit made the process incredibly simple so i decided to bite the bullet and try it.
i went through the process of unlocking and rooting my phone fine. i was able to give superuser access and when i load up my phone it shows the unlock logo. so far everything has been going smoothly, but when i tried to install bugless beast i ran into an issue.
here is what i did:
1. advanced utilities --> install zip (from my computer)
2. point to the nightly build (zip) of bugless beast i just downloaded
3. start the operation and see it start to install jellybean
4. when it loads up again i see the new jellybean x loading screen.
5. it never gets past this point.
i've let it idle for around 10 minutes and still no dice. i've removed the battery and retried to see if that would help but it didn't. so i have two questions now
1. did i do something wrong by trying to install the zip through the toolkit? i thought choosing it and letting the script it would just work, but i ran into this problem and have little idea how to fix it.
2. how can i just revert my phone back so i can boot it up again.
thanks so much. the nexus root toolkit made a very scary process a lot easier to deal with except for this one small issue.

I have had the problem of sloooooow boot up. I would plug the phone into the charger and reboot it again and just let it sit. I have been to the point that I thought it just wasn't going to boot but after more than 15 minutes it finally booted up. Hope you get it to work.

? Have you tried flashing stock to fix it? Are you running a custom ROM? I would advise flashing stock to correct your problem.

If you can't boot up, then us the "Flash Stock + Unroot" with "can't boot up" option selected. That will walk you through restoring your device. Regarding what you did. It sounds like you did everything correctly. It's possible that you just had a bad flash.. maybe an incomplete download? Also, did you read the bugless beast developer thread? Maybe there were special install instructions, or prerequisites to flash that zip? The toolkit has a message about this.. being sure to read the developers thread first. Did you use the toolkits suggested options for flashing the ROM.zip?
In the end the solution is to reflash stock and try again. I have a feeling you will have better luck this next time around.

Yesterday I used NRT v1.5.3 to successfully make a Nandroid backup. Today I tried multiple times without success. In each case the phone would hang at the TWRP screen. NRT itself said the process completed. NRT did create a folder on the PC, but it was empty. Any ideas on what the problem might be? BTW, I did run the full driver test multiple times and it always passed.

Ok so I have a question...I have posted this question in a other parts of this forum but this looks like the best place now. I just used NRT v1.5.3 to root my Sprint GN. My phone wants me to still update to JB. Can I run the Sprint OTA then re-root with NRT? Or should I un-root with NRT then run OTA for Jelly Bean then re-root with NRT? Dose NRT work with Jelly Bean? If so what Ver number? ON NRT it lists 4.1.0 as a choice. But i thought the OTA from Sprint was 4.1.1? Please Help! I am a n00b too. I am sick of the update reminder lol and I really want to try JB

If you didn't make any other system modifications, chances are that your can just update your rooted Sprint GN. If you flashed a custom recovery when rooting, then you need to restore stock recovery first. This can be accomplished in the advanced utilities interface; restore stock recovery. Once you do that, then just try and update; either it will work.. or it won't and you will be exactly where you were when you started. If it doesn't work then Flash Stock + Unroot before trying again.
For rooting your updated Sprint 4.1.1 build, use the "Any Build" mode in the model menu. Since google doesn't release the factory image package, I can't officially list the new build yet.. until someone leaks the image files. The "Any Build" mode will work for rooting it though.

Thanks. I am going to run the Sprint OTA in a few min. Are you saying that the OTA will unroot my GN so I will just need to re-root? Oh and thinks for the NRT and all your hard work. Makes Noobs like me able to root and stuff.
