New phone from Samsung -- backing up a stock phone

Got a new phone from Samsung two days before my warranty expired. The mic was cutting out randomly.

I'm looking to backup or image my old stock phone. I used Ultimate Backup Tool, but can I image it instead?

The new refurb will be stock too, unless this is a good time to root and ROM.

Root now or later?
