Save to external hard drive?
I have been searching and can't seem to find what I want. I want to save my pics and movies that are on my phone over to my external hard drive. When I plug the phone and hard drive into computer at same time it just says the USB hub is overpowered. My main goal is to get the movies to the hard drive then on my PlayStation 3. Can I hook the hard drive up directly to the phone and transfer like that? If so what file would it be under in the file explorer if I copy and paste? Or any apps I need for this?

Re: Save to external hard drive?
You should just be able to plug the external HDD to the phone and transfer that way. If that won't work, you could just transfer the files to your PC then from the PC to the external HDD.
As far as what folder the files are in, that depends on where you got the files from. If the photos and video were all taken with your phone's camera, they'll be in sdcard/dcim

Re: Save to external hard drive?
I have zarchiver and file expert and I was trying to find where to save the files to. Is there a location the external hard drive should show up? I know where to find my movies and such. Sorry for the misunderstanding. I have stickmount installed if that makes a difference

Re: Save to external hard drive?
Best, quickest way to get video and pics to your PS3 is using iMediaShare. It might also do music as well but i dont play music on PS3 so dont quote me on it.
The free version should work for your needs. It allows direct, wifi viewing or copying to your PS3 hdd of either local (sdcard) media or web based video streams (YouTube, motorzHD, Reuters, HD Nation and many more). I just recommend having PS3 wired if you want to stream rather than copy as well being wired will improve your copy speeds if you prefer to do so. Also works with Xbox360. The server always pops up on PS3/360 as well.....very 'visible' .
For LAN transfers over wifi I recommend ES File Explorer. Always free, highly useful and always updated and added to. Wicked file management app. Does Bluetooth, LAN, FTP, net storage transfers on top of handling your local media. Just be sure your hdd share permissions are set properly.

Re: Save to external hard drive?
I tried imediashare and it never located my ps3. Any settings I need to adjust in the app or the ps3? The PlayStation is wired and the phone is on the Wi-Fi

Re: Save to external hard drive?
Well I figured the imediashare and PlayStation 3 thing out. Had to wire the ps3 into router instead of the modem. My bad

Sweet. I find it pops up great when wired as such.

Another great transfer program is AirDroid. It is a little different than ES File Explorer in that it is more PC browser based, like Wifi Explorer Pro (if you've even heard of any of these). ES is controlled at the phone, AirDroid from the PC.
You can simply turn on AirDroid, which basically turns your phone into an active FTP server which you can browse from any PC browser based in the same network. At least FireFox and Chrome work with it I know that. Simply download files from the phone then move where desired. Has a pretty cool interface too I think. I don't use it anymore as I use ES solely now for nearly all my media transfers, but I remember it was a great app.

Re: Save to external hard drive?
I use stick mount....if the drive is ntfs you might need paragon.
I use this configuration with my n7 and a 250GB external. I also have a64kb thumb that I use on the fly
Oh...but my route requires an OTG cable which was $2.
Best method in my opinion

Re: Save to external hard drive?
I used the otg cable but I just couldn't figure out what the phone was listing the hard drive as so I could copy the files from the phone to the hard drive. I thought it was listed as usbdisk but that wasn't it. I formatted the hard drive to FAT32 and it dropped the available memory from 967gb to 4xx gb now. Any ideas why it would do that or how to recover all that memory I lost? It's a brand new 1tb toshiba drive
