If your not on jelly bean then volume+ works really well. However the dev I'd having trouble getting it to work with jelly bean because of something Google put in. Other than that rooting and a custom rom is the only other option I found that works. Or you could try the volume rocker lol! That one was laughable

Is there an easy 1 click root method??

If you find an easy one click then let me know. I haven't found one. I wish it was something easier to fix. You can download wug's toolkit to root it. It will guide you through the whole process. I'm not a computer savvy person at all and I just watched some YouTube videos and studied a little bit in the forums and then was able to unlock and root my nexus with wug's. Then loading a new rom is a straightforward process also. Just be sure to make your backups and you'll be safe should something mess up you can always recover it

Wug's toolkit was quick and painless for me, once I tried it on my roommate's PC. My laptop is ancient, and I was having trouble with fastboot, but it only took a few minutes to unlock and root on a fairly modern computer.

Hello
Of course I met the same problem of speaker volume with number of missed calls and finally I decided to root my GN and then to install cm10 custom ROM cause none solution i tried worked. Now the volume has acceptable level with using DSP manager app embedded with the ROM.
I applied the rooting method found on the galaxynexusroot website without any problem. After that installing a custom ROM is very simple and took 10 mn in using recovery mode.
