A note on " Force Hardware Rendering" in settings

Because of something I'd read earlier I've had the selection stated in my title checked since the first hours using my GN. I've just now gotten to Android engineer Dianne Hackborn's post on Google+ where she discusses in great detail hardware acceleration and Android. (Sorry, no link available but easy to find and highly recommended ).

Long story short I've just switched it off. One of the things she mentioned is that many apps won't work with it yet. Now that I unchecked it - settings > developer options - two of my favorite apps (NASA, and NASA images) are now working fine.

It also appears my tapatalk app which I've had on dark theme is for the first time showing a true black background. Perhaps my battery life will improve as it has been poorer than expected.

Readers please comment: Under what circumstances do you plan on switching it on? For the curious I'll update this post later if I notice other drastic changes.

Edit: My Google news widget which was a little jittery and apt to force close on occasion is now as smooth as can be.

I just turned this off. First thing I notice is that the browser is more responsive. More to come....

    Ahh...OK, thanks.

I hadn't messed with it anyway... thought it was something else.

Here is a link to GSMArena that gives a brief summary to the Dianne Hackborn comments on hardware acceleration. From it you can access her full post on Google plus. Apologies as this has likely been linked here elsewhere on the GN forum. For those who haven't seen it yet it's a very interesting read.

Very interesting. I know of one app (msecure) that will lock up if I don't leave that selected in developer options.
