Jellybean, screen timeouts, and downloads
As I reported in this thread JellyBean May Be "Official" VZW-Users, I finally got my 4.1 update after more than 80 tries. After try 70 or so, Google Services Framework disappeared altogether form my device and I had to do a full reset to get it back. My screen defaults to the 15 second timeout, but the device had no problem quickly re-downloading all my apps (automatically) and reinstalling them. I don't have a ton of apps, but enough that altogether that's a sizeable download. All this info in relevant to my question / issue below.
I had sort of given up on getting 4.1 today and was re-downloading my 700 or so mp3s form the Amazon MP3 player app. Seemed to be going slowly, but I really don't recall how slowly. I read on the thread above of another user who had finally gotten 4.1 and decided to try again, and that's when I was blessed by Verizon with the update. I paused the MP3 downloads to download and install the update (which in any case would have stopped since the phone has to reboot to install). Since the update, I've re-started my MP3 download. Here's what I've noticed: if the screen is on, songs download very fast - at most 4 or 5 seconds per song. One the screen times out and goes dark, I can go back to the pahone say 10 minutes later and only 3 more song have downloaded. However, obvioulsy the screen is back on in order for me to see this, and once again I see the downloads happening very quickly.
So my question: is there something in the Amazon MP3 app that is causing the drastic (truly drastic) slowdown when the screen goes dark? Or is it something in 4.1? Or something that's always been that way and I just never noticed since I don't typically do large downloads on the phone? I can't think of anything other than my MP3 download to really test it. As I said above, when I had to do the 4.0.4 reset to get Google Services Framework back, the re-download of all my apps seemed to go very fast (even though the screen was off after the first 15 seconds), so I don't think it's just something that's always been that way. Seems like it must be either the Amazon app or the 4.1 update.

You might want check WiFi advanced settings to make sure that WiFi stays on when the phone goes into sleep mode. That's one possible explanation.

Thanks. "Keep wi-fi on during sleep" is set to "Always," which is the correct setting, right?
