    notifications bar and shade issues

Hi all, new here and couldn't find this answer. I just switched from Iphone to Nexus III and after about three weeks, my notifications have stopped working. I don't get sound or vibration for incoming texts, emails, fb messages, etc. I don't even get notification icons in the the bar. There's just the overflow icon (looks like a blocky arrow with a dash in it). The notifications still appear in the shade when I pull it down, but the alerts aren't coming in. It's very annoying and renders the phone kind of useless, esp given that the android rep for handling notifications was one of the reasons for switching. I don't want to factory reset here. any help?

Also, in case it's somehow related, my clock app started crashing at exactly the same time this started happening. won't even load now. crashes each time on launch.

    Thanks in advance.

Is your phone rooted? One thing you can do is to go into your apps and clear the caches of the messaging apps. Are the notification s you are missing, coming from Outlook? I have heard the Outlook itself gets buggy and automatically lines your messages as read, thus nullifying the new message.

Another thing that I've heard is, although kinda silly, but does your phone have a power bar in the notification screen? The phone should come with five icons on it, wireless, Bluetooth, location, brightness, and syncing. They put it in an awkward location, easily susceptible to inadvertent swipes. Give that a check, as you could have mistakenly turned off the syncing on your phone.

As for the clock, I'd start with dumping the cache, then starting the app over again.

    I hope this helps.

Hi, thanks for the reply. The phone is not rooted and I don't have outlook running. The syncing is still enabled as well. It seems like alerts are turned off somewhere or the bar got filled up with alerts and then got stuck there. Not sure. It's been this way for about a week.

Silly question, but do you have it in silent mode or the volume down?

try going into settings>apps> "all apps" tab and then locate "Google Services Framework" and hitting the Clear Data button. Then restart the phone and see if the overflow icon goes away and maybe your notifications will come in.

Ok try "clearing cache" in "System UI" in the apps list like how you got to Google services framework.

Thanks again. The system UI had nothing cached so there was no option to clear the cache. I'm guessing that's not the issue. gah!

Which clock app are you using? If you don't want to do factory reset then I would start uninstalling downloaded apps.
