Is it possible to set the stock browser up on my galaxy nexus, such that it opens at the home page and not the last page of previous session. If yes would someone kindly tell me how? thanks in advance
It is possible. Open the browser and click the menu in the upper right corner and then click settings>General>Set Homepage
Sorry, I misread your question. I think the only way to do what you ask is to is to kill the app by backing all the way out with the back button. or you can kill the app by hitting the recents button and swiping the browers away.
Edit: and you have to turn off "Restore Tabs" under Settings>Tab settings

I could not actually find Tab Settings, under Settings to do as you suggested.
