About rooting...

Hey everyone, i wanted to ask you a question about rooting my GNex. It's running jelly bean and i dont intend to install custom roms over it at least not now, but i saw somewhere that rooting it may impair its OTA updates and considering it's a nexus phone i really dont want to lose those. So can anyone confirm that rooting Galaxy Nexus doesn't deprive it of its ability to OTA whenever a new update comes?

If it's just rooting, you won't have any issues. Modifying the system will make future ota fail though. Just have a backup in case you plan to modify in the future

Well idk if anyone's having problems with this but the main reason i want to root it right now is because after a factory reset i lost google movies and music id widget. Not particularly useful but i want to try to get them back, and in case i lose anything else in the future i want to be able to get it back with titanium backup...

Just make sure if/when you do unlock and root, you save all your photos and other stuff to a safe location prior to doing so. The forums have many examples of people who ask for help recovering files after unlocking without doing so.

And make sure the minute you install the recovery you do a backup in recovery just in case. That way you have a means to at least get back to that point in time should something go bad down the road.

Ah i wanted to ask something about that as well. My friend, some time ago rooted his Galaxy Ace, an older model so i'm not sure anything applies to nexus but, when he backed up his Stock rom, prior to flashing any custom ones, the backup didn't work. When we tried to reset to stock (backup) it just froze there, and later i saw somewhere that that was because original or stok roms CANNOT be backed up with rom manager/clockwerk mod recovery etc...So has anyone tried and managed to backup AND restore stock jelly bean rom, because it's very important to me not to lose it?
