AT&T Data plans for Galaxy Nexus.

Hey guys, I'm buying a new Galaxy Nexus from the Play Store. The phone is unlocked and I'm am going to be using it on AT&T. I do not have a data plan and I was wondering if I would still be charged for one when I put my SIM card in the phone. Thanks.

Since your Galaxy Nexus is not in their database, I'd doubt they'd charge you for data just because you put your current SIM into it. My question is, though, are you not planning on using data in the future? If your current plan doesn't include data, I don't think you'll be able to use data with your new phone unless you let them update your plan. Someone correct me if I'm wrong.

No, I do not plan on getting a data plan.

Just because you don't have a data plan does not mean you can't use data. If you do not turn off data on the phone then you will be charged per kb(per use fee) if your phone accidentally connects. It could be astronomically expensive. So be careful and inactivate data usage on your phone. I'm not sure how you would block data. Iphones you could change the apn. Probably something similiar with the galaxy nexus.

This is what I expect, but unable to confirm with someone that has done this. Basically, no data plan (just pay per use) and turn off all data usage settings except WIFI.

Also, I have been using a dumb phone... and if I install my current non LTE SIM card into the Galaxy Nexus, will it work?

My wife has a non smart phone. I temporarily put her sim in a smart phone. ATT caught it and added a data plan automatically. The sim was only in the smart phone for less than 2hrs before I switched it back. My guess is even tho the Nexus is not in their database, they will still know and add a data plan.
