Franco Kernel - "Balanced" Power Mode and CPU 0/1
Hi.
I've been using the Franco Kernel (Milestone 3 and then 4) for the last several weeks. I'm pretty happy with its stability and battery life. However, I've just noticed that my CPU 1 (second core) is "offline" when I have my Franco Power Mode set to "Balanced." Actually, CPU 1 does change to online when I reset the power mode to "Balanced," but it automatically goes back to offline after a while.
Is this normal? If so, do I need to set the power mode to "Full Power" in order for CPU 1 to be always on? I'd assume the "Balanced" power mode enables CPU 1 when it's necessary, but I've never seen CPU 1 online except when, like I said above, I manually reset the power mode.
TIA!

It's been my experience that it also depends on which governor you are using. I have mine set to balanced, but usually either use the ondemand or interactive governors. The thought behind that is that Core 1 goes to "sleep" when the screen is off or low power modes and the comes back on when the screen wakes. Personally, if your not noticing any problems while its offline, then i would guess that the optamizations have determined its not needed for you particular use. I almost certain it will come back online when needed.

Thanks for the reply. I didn't notice any performance degradation with the balanced mode, so that probably means CPU 1 was turned off for efficiency. That makes me wonder what the stock kernel does - does it also turn on/off the second core on the fly, or does it keep both active regardless of the OS operations?
I am now using a custom ROM (XenonHD) and the kernel that comes with it, and I'm pretty happy with the combination. I may go back to the Franco kernel in the future, though.
Thanks again for your info.
