Hide and seek with phone keypad?

So, when I call some business that has a touch-tone-based automated menu system, I end up getting very frustrated with my GN. I bring up the keypad, it shows up fine, and then the screen blacks out. If I tilt the phone, the screen lights up again, showing the keypad, and then goes black again in anywhere from a half second to a few seconds later. In the meantime, I need to quickly find and press the number(s) I want.

Is there a setting to leave the keypad up during a phone call? Or better yet, to set the delay beforeit automatically turns the screen off?

Hmmm. The phone menu only shows a Settings choice, and the resulting "Call Settings" screen offers
    Quick Responses
    Voicemail
    Other Call Settings
    Internet Call Settings

...none of which include anything about the screen. Quite frustrating...

Ok, so the good news is that I'm not totally nuts. The bad news is that I still have to play hide-and-seek with the keypad! 8-)

Russ you might not have those settings in stock rom. Most of us are on custom roms with custom dialers.

I notice that happens unless I put on the speaker. If the speaker is on, the keyboard will stay open and visible.
