Just switched over to AOKP and Franco Kernel the other day. Really liking it so far and I get about 12-14hrs pretty good use of my phone. Runs nice and smooth as well
First couple of cycles mine was drainin quick too, but a couple threads I came across said to give roms and kernels a few days to run before lookin for results. I just have mine on recommended settings thru Franco's app. This is from my 3rd day after kernel flash. (Not a heavy usage day but still this is def. helpin)

It does take a few cycles of any rom to settle in. There are calibration aps you can get too. In the end the settings can make a huge difference on your life span.

Hey, those calibration apps are pointless btw. I used them for a while too. Then one of google's lead developers said on her g+ account what the battery stats file is actually technically used for, and that clearing it is useless and could cause more harm than good. Like task killers, for example. I know this has been discussed in the forums, so you could probably search and get more detail.

I have always had luck with batter calibrator. As ajp mentioned, speculation is that it doesnt matter. Time could coincidentally make it appear as though it is becoming more stable. I would not generally go by second source google+ statements....but it would not surprise me that it was accurate. Some research never hurts.
