GSM Galaxy Nexus - should it say "H" or "4G"?

    Hi.

I have an unlocked GSM Galaxy Nexus. I am with AT&T.

My signal indicator always shows "H" instead of "4G," which I believe should be shown when the phone is on HSPA+. Am I correct? I'm wondering because my plan still says "Unlimited data for iPhone 4," even though I asked an AT&T rep to update my plan to one that supports HSPA+.

Speedtest shows approx. 4-5 Mbps down and 2-3 Mbps up, which is not bad, but I wonder if it would be a lot better by taking advantage of HSPA+.

    TIA!

H is the 4G. Some roms shows an H, others shows 4G.

Thanks for the quick reply. I've got Vanilla ICS 4.0.4. Happen to know whether it's supposed to show "H" or "4G"? I'd imagine the LTE GNex would show "4G."

H is marking for HSDPA protocol. This is enhanced 3G internet protocol.

My understanding is that HSPA+ is different (and faster) than HSDPA/HSUPA, and that Galaxy Nexus supports HSPA+. Now, technically speaking, you're right, HSPA+ (or even LTE) is not qualified as a true 4G, but in the marketing speak, both HSPA+ and LTE are advertised as 4G. My wife's iPhone 4S says "4G" on the same AT&T network I am on, so I saw no reason that my Galaxy Nexus would not show the same. In fact, the GNex says the mobile network is HSPDA. It may mean that my AT&T plan does need to be updated to support HSPA+.
