Rooted or Not? I cannot access Superuser. ( noobie)

    Hi everyone,

I used Wug's root toolkit to root my Galaxy Nexus. I think I did all the steps correctly. Do I automatically get access to Superuser app, Root explorer, SetCPU and others by simply rooting my phone? ( I am new to rooting) or do I need to install ROM? I used root checker and it said I need root. all of the previous apps said that I need to root my phone. How can I gain access to those apps? your help is highly appreciated!!!

You don't install a rom to root but rather install superuser app when it's rooted. If you hit the "root" in the toolkit you should have the superuser app in your app drawer.

This may be a backwards way to check, but I used adb shell and typed in su <ret>. When I got a # sign prompt rather than the $ sign prompt, I figured that I was still rooted.

Thanks Paul for the explanation. AFter rooting superuser wasn't in the app drawer. I downloaded it form android market and it does not seem to be functional.I guess I didn't root my phone right then? If so from which step i start in the root toolkit? Thanks in advance!

Excuse my ignorance. but is adb shell an app for commands? I am not that much familiar with using commands but I am trying to learn slowly.

    thanks

    Abdul,

I may have been hasty in my reply, because I also have found that my superuser (or 'root') privileges are not correct since I rooted and downloaded 4.0.4. In any case, adb stands for the Android Debug Bridge, which comes with the Android SDK. I think it is pretty neat, having a smidge of linux knowledge, because you can open a shell (command line interface) on your phone using your PC. That is, open the "Command Prompt" from your Windows Accessories folder, and (if you have the SDK installed) you can use adb to do various things with your Gnex. (there is a little more to it, so if you want to use it, google 'adb' or 'android sdk' for more information.

I think the power users on here mostly use it to do everything. I only have limited knowledge of it. Nonetheless, what I have found is that I can open up a shell on the Gnex, and type in su <ret>, and change from the $ prompt to a # sign prompt. That tells me that I should have superuser capability. That being said, I'm having issues with Titanium Backup and ROM Manager not having root privileges, so I obviously need to learn more myself. But, that is for another thread...

One more thing, Abdul. if you are referring to the "superuser elite" program from the app market, it doesn't give you root privileges. It only manages the programs using root-level access on your phone.

On 4.0.4, you just need to flash the superuser zip from here to regain full root access...Problem with Rom Manager after 4.0.4

You have to download those apps except superuser. Once you have root superuser is automatically installed. Once you rooted you phone using Wugs toolkit download rom manager and flash the clockwork recovery. Then reboot into recovery using rom manager and choose install zip from sdcard find the su.zip file and flash that then reboot your phone and you should be rooted.
