Newbie Question about Wifi and Data use

Hey folks

I just got my Galaxy Nexus a couple of days ago and I love this phone!
However I do have anewbie question about data use.

Lets say I sign in to the home wifi when im home..and then download some stuff from the android market/online to the phone. Will the phone plan's data be used(I only have a 2gb plan) or will the wifi be used? I could put the phone on aeroplane mode and only sue wifi, but it defeats the purpose of having the phone in the first place . Does anyone know if I have wifi enabled and logged in, the phone browsing/downloads will only use wifi and not the 4g/3g? is there a way to ensure that it does switch to wifi when there is wifi?

If your connected to wifi almost all your data will go across wifi and not count against your data plan

Not almost all. All data transfer will happen through WiFi when you're connected to a WiFi network. As far as automatically switching to WiFi when it's available, there are apps out there that will notify you of networks when they're available. Here's what comes up when you search "wifi" in the Market.

Unless something has changed recently or every phone I've ever had is broke mms data doesn't go through wifi.
