Apologies for the delay. Long day at school. Stayed late to finish my labs.
But, I edited my previous post. I reread it and I saw that it didn't really flow very well. Sorry about that, grap.
That is welcome news. Thanks for the heads up, Mike. AndI know this next part is a different subject than GW as the thread states. But I wonder if he can be convinced to put together a little something about all the BS about the anti-rooting that carriers like to embrace. Because it is our phones, after all. And they are tiny computers similar to our desktops/laptops. And also about the nonsense about locked bootloaders (bloatorola and SIII). You don't see desktops/laptops locked up and only able to run a certain way. These phones ahould be able to be individualized for the individuals' particular tastes and preference(s).
But anyways, I'll step off my soapbox now. Lol. I have studying to do for a test tomorrow anyways. Lol

Just FYI, here's a tweet from EDNYLaw:
"Draft of GWallet Complaint done, email at
ednylaw@gmail.com for an advance copy, critiques welcome"
Looks like he's gotten good information that it is definitely Verizon that's choking Wallet and now a hardware/software issue and that it's probably not Google backing off kindly on Wallet to get favor for future phones. I haven't read the draft. I suspect it's not being posted online to help keep it under wraps until he actually submits to the FCC.
Here is Google's response from their Google+ page from a couple of days ago:
Google WalletOct 3, 2012+Matthew Harmon We're sorry to hear you're unable to use Google Wallet on your phone. Verizon has chosen not to support Google Wallet at this time. We are in active conversations with all carriers and hope to make Google Wallet available on more devices, across more carriers soon.

Is there any update on r81-v4 for Verizon GNex users? I've been holding off on this from Cup's warning. I can't even find a changelog to see what's been updated. I just know r79-v5 is working fine still on my phone.

Re: New Wallet App?!
I suspect Google Wallet will be dead in the water soon. With ISIS in market testing now, and many of the major carriers backing it, Big Dread will do what they have to, to block Google Wallet and push you towards ISIS. I hope I'm wrong but....

Jason Klimek (EDNYLaw) submitted an official complaint to the FCC on October 26th-ish. You can download the submitted complaint at his site:
Google Wallet Complaint Submitted to the FCC - Jason W. Klimek, Esq.
We'll see what comes of it. Hopefully Verizon get's another fine (perhaps more substantial this time too...) if they did indeed violate the C block regs and it makes even the slightest change it their internal policies for devices on their network. It's the people like Jason that are on the consumer's side making sure that everyone plays fair and we're not bowled over by big corporations. Without Jason, Verizon would continue to show disregard for federal regulations further burdening consumers in their quest for more money. However, a small fine and a slap on the hand may not be enough; but at least someone actually did something!

I think Verizon is clearly in violation of the following: a licensee may not “interfere with the ability of end users to download and utilize applications of their choosing.”
I also got a good LOL at this quote given to a Verizon customer to who contacted them to complain:
Verizon stated:
"I can tell you that Verizon does not block applications. Google Wallet is different from other widely-available m-commerce services. Google Wallet does not simply access the operating system and basic hardware of our phones like thousands of other applications. Instead, in order to work as architected by Google, Google Wallet needs to be integrated into a new, secure and proprietary hardware element in our phones. We are continuing our commercial discussion with Google on this issue."

Document is a pretty good read even if you can't understand legal-ese. I think he's found some valid point there and the canned response he got like 3 times from Verizon is utterly stupid. Correct me if I'm wrong, but essentially they're saying "Uh, we don't block any apps." Which is true, Verizon can't block apps themselves, but they sure HAVE asked Google to block them in the Play Store. The line about "Instead, in order to work as architected by Googe, GW..." seems to me like they're essentially trying to say that in order for GW to work on the VZW Nexus, Google needs to re-do the app and make the app use the new ISIS proprietary hardware. Essentially saying hey, we don't like your NFC-GW app system, in order to "work" you need to switch over to OUR system of ISIS...
If EDNYLaw has all his sources straight and true, Verizon definitely asked Google to block the app in Play, Google reluctantly agreed, and thus Verizon is doing the same thing they were fined for when they asked Google to block tethering apps. I seriously hope this gets through and Verizon gets fined again. And I definitely hope they get a bigger fine this time. 1.25 million is chump change to Verizon. They'll just keep pulling these shenanigans again and again at that rate. Think of it this way... is it worth $1.25 mil to keep GW out of the hands of Verizon customers so you can further develop a competing system and then force your entire customer base to use ISIS? Uhh... YES. Up that fine to $10 mil or whatever, and they'll be more likely to think twice next time I'd hope.
