Great Antivirus Program For Android (For Anyone Who Uses Them)
I would like to see if maybe this could be the go-to thread for this Avast! app. And a troubleshooting thread for it too (I searched and found no post yet about this. So hopefully I am not too late on this as I normally am. Lol!)
I may not post immediately after you post a problem or concern because, as I said, I am changing career fields and I go to school full time. But we all are here for eachother. So everyone is welcome to jump in and give someone a hand. Even if I am able to answer a post right away.
I personally use Avast! on my personal computer. And always remove the worthless Norton, and other apps associated with it. I can vouch for Avast! being a great app and software for my computer. They have, in my opinion, a stellar program. And they are very proactive.
My computer runs great with Avast! and it truly runs in the background flawlessly and does not slow the machine down a bit.
I found out this morning that they now have an Android version. Now, I normally don't use antivirus and protection apps like this or Lookout, etc. But from personally using Avast! on my machine at home, I wanted to try it out. And this app is free!
I can tell you that it runs just like it does on my computer. You can turn off the notification icon or keep it up top. And Avast! still runs completely in the background and does not hinder the performance thus far. I will run it all week and see how it does during test as vigorous as I can being in school full time now. I might even run it over the entire two weeks of my summer "break" that I have coming up next week. And I will let you know how it goes. You are more than welcome to try it and post here as well.
In my 14+hours using this, I have to say that it will be my go to Antivirus/Antitheft/Spyware app now. As I understand it so far, Avast! has a remote wipe feature slightly different than Lookout and TrustGo. They call it Anti Theft. And it allows you to permit two people from your contacts to have access to enable the remote wipe. Which is handy if you lose your phone. You can use someone elses phone to fall them imediately instead of waiting for computer access. I am still in the process of finding out more about this feature. And as soon as I find out, I will post it. Or I will edit this post at the bottom.
There is a sub menu when you are seting things up for the first time to choose root options. For instance, it will let you make an update.zip that you run in CWR that will enable the Anti Theft feature in the previous paragragh. And it requires you to me rooted to take full advantage of that feature. So always keep a copy of your Nandroid backups on your computer so you can restore your phone how you had it. You can also do the update.zip later. And it is not a full backup of your phone. It is only a file to flash in recovery to enable the Anti Theft scripts. That is why it will be a good idea to have an extra Nandroid copy on your home computer and/or in the cloud sevices by Google or Dropbox, etc.
In addition to searching for it and reading about it in the Play astore, from the first link below you should be able to read more about it. And they should have a download link to download it from the Play Store.

I have been using Avast on my pc for a long time now, best antivirus for me I believe.
And added avast on my Nexus as soon as I got it out of the box. No issues so far. What I like about the avast app is all the anti theft options they have and free.

I like that too.
So it's been out for a while? I wonder why I just found out yesterday morning when I plugged it into my computer?
Well, I'm not as cool as I thought I was. Lmao!

I downloaded the free AVG because I used to use it for my PC. I'm a brand new android user (less then one week) and I'm wondering if I need antivirus on this phone? Is it just for people using downloading roms or should I be concerned about viruses just from web browsing. I only plan to use the Google app store for awhile at least.
Should I switch to the AV program you recommended or is what I have even nessasary?
