I have not used any Antivirus apps and think it's not necessary (yet). The only real threat I see with Android is unwanted push notifications attached to some apps in the play store. This being said it's not a bad idea to install something like Lookout security.

    +1 to what paul said.

I personally don't use antivirus on my phone (yet) as he said. I thought it interesting that my perosnal preference for my computer is available for my phone. So I am testing it out to see how it goes. And I also wanted to post this so that people would knlw about another option that is available to try as well.

But if a day comes that one is needed, I am liking this one so far. And I like the way antitheft is utilized on this app. But, that is strictly personal preference.

My second day into it has not hindered anything. So if I do deside to keep it on my phone until such a day that it is virtually required, I will keep it on for the antitheft alone. But, again, it is personal preference. Lookout is great too. You do have to pay a small fee monthly. But Lookout has some pretty sweet stuff on their app, too.

I use Avast on my PC and like it more than AVG. Both are good IMO. The big name AV software are a joke lol.

Good point about those pesky push notification... I even heard some apps have the ads over the speaker as the phone is ringing to make a phone call, I'm not letting that happen

Guess I'll download it and have it ready.

I used Avast a while ago as it's what I use on my desktop. I do really like the anti-theft options is has especially the way you can freak people when they are on your phone and you send a message to lock it.

The only problem with it (and probably with any anti-theft software) is that if falls into the hands of someone Android savvy, they can just flash a new rom and avast is gone.

Good point. On the plus side, though, if you ask Verizon they will tell you that the Android users that are techy savvy Android users only make up less than 1%-3% of users. We all know tgose numbers are *slighty* biased and a deflated number. But we all know that the number is much less. And then there are all the mindless drones who are on crApple

But it at least buys you time to then get on the horn to VZW and have them put their locks on the MEID number affected.

I have an idea that I am compiling to send to Avast! to hide the notification bar icon and still have the level of protection it says that you have by not disabling it. Along with that, the ability to hide the app icon from the app drawer. But you know it's there. Thus, buying that much more time until you either get your phone back or VZW locks it on their end.

Ok. After much pushing my phone with this, I am impressed. Lookout kind of lagged my system after a while. And like my personal computer, Avast! worked flawlessly. And without any system slowdown at all.

The only thing I saw that might be a problem for some is if you have the notification icon enabled, it seems to *slightly* poll the battery. A little too much for my liking. But not like other apps. I have had apps that would kill my battery easy within a day. But It was only minuscule with Avast! And I still got 10-14 hours on my G-Nex with light to moderate use. With moderate to heavy use, I got about 8-12 hours.

And if you activated the antitheft, you may be pleased to know that after a (purposely done) hard reset, it was still there. My advice with the antitheft is to pick a name similar enough to a system app/file to help disguise it for would-be theives. Because it will most likely show up in your app drawer. It did on mine after the hard reset. But this antitheft feature is something to be envied, in my opinion.

There was one app, though, that Avast! flagfed. And it is a popular and widely used app -GO SMS Pro. I can't remember what exactly what it flagged. But it had to do with antitheft working properly. And from Avasts advice, I emailed the developer of GoSMS Pro to see if they would and could fix the issue.
